Fastest lap in qualifying for Round 2 of the 2022 USTCC season at Sonoma Raceway. I had three 15 minute practice sessions to try to get familiar with this car before this lap. I must have lost a couple of tenths letting teammate Bob Accardo by in his GT class Camaro on the front straight. It looks like I gave up 12mph into turn 1!

I recently got to take my friend Mike Sekhon’s USTCC Super Touring BMW M3 out for a session at Thunderhill. The car had a bit too much oversteer with its setup as you can see in the slow and medium speed corners. This can easily be dialed out with some quick shock and swaybar adjustments. Watch the first lap of round 5 of the USTCC Touring Car race from inside the #31 GoGoGear.com Hyundai Genesis Coupe 3.8L as Gary Sheehan takes the lead in the Touring Car class. It might look like a Sunday drive, but there is lots going on: left foot anti-knockback braking, heel-toe double-clutch downshifts, and block shifting. Heart rate was in the high 160bpm to low 170bpm for most of the race.

Got a solid start and stayed safe the first couple of laps while working up through the field. Great way to start the season with a race win at Las Vegas!

USTCC Round 5 2019. A balky transmission in the #31 GoGoGear Hyundai Genesis Coupe 3.8L made for a very challenging race. 3 to 4 shifts were very difficult, and the trans wanted to pop out of 5th gear, so I had to hold the shift lever in 5th. The missed shifts into 4th are cringe-worthy, but driving under the checkered flag in 1st place in the Touring Car class made the race-long panic worth it!

New track record for the USTCC Touring Car class at Auto Club Speedway. 1:49.920

I certainly wasn't the first to drop the clutch on this start, but I made up for it by not charging the corners on cold tires and keeping things neat and tidy until the tires came up to full temp.
